It’s business time, folks. New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo returns to HBO tonight for their second (and, supposedly, final–say it isn’t so!) season, and things are topsy-turvy. Who would have thought that our beloved characters would have to deal with…success? Murray’s tripped into managing a platinum-certified novelty rap act, and after firing him for neglect Bret and Jemaine are asked to write a jingle for a new organic toothpaste for women only. You see, not many people know this, but women have very different dental needs from men. We do.
The upside-down trend continues as the first song we hear is from Murray, who, sadly, feels like a cornflake box without any flakes. Things will surely be back to normal sad-sackness by the end of the episode, which is lucky–I’ve been muttering “lick my battery, sucker” under my breath for weeks, and I need a new Conchords-coined catchphrase. Misery and the company it loves will doubtless produce more lyrical genius–they rap about reality, you know. Season premiere on HBO at 10pm Eastern and Pacific.
